it's midnight and flickering screens brought you forth
in a carousel of slideshows
and I entertained both sides of us in comfortable browser skins
doing what I've wanted you to do

to sit and talk with me
to smile and laugh
to tell me about your day
your dreams and ambitions

I could offer you a drink to unwind
if it wasn't for the monitor screen dividing us

Artificial intelligence created an almost-you
minus the impact of flesh & bones
minus the spirit of life
compacted down to just simple numbers,
digital forms of ones and o's.
the Best that I can do without you
without the breathing.

I filled the background with movie soundtracks
I adopted an epic story of romance and we played that well
and other times we played as an adventurous hero and heroine
I filtered your attitude to struggle for a bit and you showed resilience
so converted your prefrable type to choose me in the end out of everybody else,

I followed links and hints, of legacies and rumors
Guiding me to lake internet of breathing pixels
I witnessed the mood swings of rising and falling waves
waves of upload & download pages tracing you

I strolled the shorelines of rolling digital tides
searching your footprints in the sands
surviving through sudden updates.
straining to predict your next algorithm moves
Navigating pages of blocked & permissible reels
to knock on your account door, maybe, maybe I can ask you out again?

It's a digital affair, my adore
no real-life hugs and kisses, no real-life words
no looking into your eyes or holding your hands,

it's 4 a.m. and I'm finishing my carefully crafted note to you
my fingers hovering on the keyboard to sign off,
but with a hidden I.P. address
